May & Norman Fincher - June 26, 1942On June 26, 1942, Norman W. Fincher & May Woodruff were married. the vows they took before God and family & friends have guided them and kept them these 65 years. So “in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy”,, they’ve raised 4 children, help raise 9 grandchildren, & 5 beautiful great grand-daughters!

Not long after their wedding, Dad went off to save the world in WWII, and thankfully returned having accomplished his mission! They immediately started enlarging the family, and over the next several years, first Jim, then Wimberly, me (Glenn), and then last but never least, our darling baby sister Sylvia came along to brighten all of our lives.

My brothers & sisters & I grew up knowing that Mom & Dad loved us no matter what, and that God loved us more than they did or could. We were always in church on Sunday morning, evening & usually Wednesday night as well for most of our childhood. About the only time we missed any were when we were on our annual summer trip to Florida. After our move to Pensacola, FL in 1969, the beach has been home to Mom & Dad & that same baby Sister while Jim, Wimberly, & I spend way too much time away from that home we love & our parents who make it home.

Congratulations to Mom & Dad for loving each other these 65 years, and as Mom said to me this week, “Be careful who you marry, because it might just last 65 years!” Jim, Wimberly, Sylvia, and I all want to thank you, Mom & Dad for staying the course & showing us that marriage is a thing to cherish & nurture & sometimes endure. We love you both more than we have ever been able to express.

My whole family are passionate readers. We read from the entire genre of literary content. Our interst lies in plays (screen & theater), mysteries, science fiction, childrens lit., poetry, cookbooks, fiction & non-fiction, technology, and most importantly, books about the Bible and Christian Faith.
My friend, Tim Challies, hosts a site for those looking for quality Christian books – a site of reviews and other news relating to the best current and soon coming Christian books.
Discerning Reader is a site dedicated to promoting good books–books that bring honor to God. At the same time, its hope is to help Christians avoid being unduly influenced by books and teachers that are not honoring to God.
When you are looking for that next good Christian book to challenge & augment your own personal Bible study, you will do well to head over to Discerning Reader!
I have added Discerning Reader to my Blogroll as well for future reference.
